Here is David Goigitzer, match analyst FC Liefering U16. Cheers David!
How did your first opportunity in football come about?
The soccer club I played for was looking for a U12 assistant coach. The head coach of that team had overheard me talking about soccer and thought I would be a good addition to his staff.
What attracted you to scouting/analysis?
I found it interesting how José Mourinho's teams were beating supposedly individually better teams, I knew it had something to do with tactics, so I started looking into that.
Who is the first player you "found"? What caught your eye?
I never specifically recruited any player.
Who is the player you "missed" on? What did you learn from it?
Same as before,
If you could start over what skill would you build on first?
Critical thinking.
Do you see player development as more of an art or a science?
I think it is important to question oneself and the player’s development constantly, to find ways to stimulate development/not to stunt it. Not sure that is either art or science.
What is your favorite sports moment? Why?
Soccer, always has been. I like that it is a game of problem solving.
What coach/player/team inspires you? Why?
Many of my friends inspire me in the way that they work hard, are critical and always look to expand their knowledge in many fields.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to get into scouting/analytics?
The work should be done because one likes it, and not seeing it as a stepping stone. Otherwise one will grow frustrated.
What is your favorite app/tool to use (for work or fun)?
GoogleDrive
What other sport/hobby/discipline do you feel improves your work as an analyst/scout? Why?
I like strength training, and critically thinking about what I do in the weight room and researching has helped me have more fun and get better results.
